This movie portraits distressing journey of an actress SILK from struggler to star to shadow.Vidya Balan did her career best role by portraying SILK.This movie is very much similar to Hollywood movie Raging Bull (1980),there they project the life of a boxer.This movie is well directed with strong support of touching story,script and outstanding dialogues.
The film starts with a dream of young village girl who wants to be an actress .Her passion towards movie make her flew away from home to chennai She didn't get chance in initial stages .Her relationship with Naseeruddin Shah (Super star) was well-handled and gives the viewer an insight into what many aspiring actors, to get that much needed break Her seductively pouting lips and sultry eyes proved her major assets She acted over 300 movies in a short span of her career and reached its peak.
Tusshar Kapoor brother of Shah fell in love with Silk But it's the eventual love story with Emraan Hashmi at tragic low phase of career stood out as the most gripping of the three.In the latter phase of her life she started experiencing failures in her life in a row
Coming to the performances, Vidya Balan was outstanding.In the second half of movie she gained lot of weight to ensure she did justice to that role.Vidya’s bold performance is highly praised by critics Of the male actors, Emraan Hashmi and Naseeruddin Shah delivers their good performances.
The music department did a decent job.Apart from regular way of beginning the movie ,they tried with “Nakku mukka “ song that worked well.The song “Oh La La”., look a part of the 80s era is already a big hit..Moving to other side of the coin Vidya’s costumes are very revealing at certain parts of the movie, Some vulgur words comes in dialogues and performance of Tusshar Kapoor is not up to the mark. Like English movies they should have bold enough to mention somewhere this story is based on true story (SILK SMITHA) . The movie ends with a beautiful message" film Industry is nothing but Entertainment ,Entertainment,Entertainment"
The film critics, who planned to condemn Vidya for accepting this offer, appreciated her bold performance and praised her sublime idea behind portraying sex siren Silk Smitha on big screen to sky high. They even predicted that she will walk away with all the awards reserved for heroine's role for this year.
